Under 12's 08/09 Presentations
PRESENTATION DAY, May 2009. A great presentation held at Avondale, Stockport.
UNDER 12's
The U12’s held
their annual end-of-season presentation night at Avondale on Saturday to
celebrate a very successful season. Narrowly missing out on a trophy but highly
creditable runners up in the League Cup Final, semi-finalists in the Challenge
Cup, and above all virtually certain of runners-up spot in the league after a
very impressive season – 13 league wins, and nearly 100 goals scored in all
competitions -
there was plenty to celebrate.
There was a great turn out from parents and family members, a great buffet (thanks Sarah for organising), and plenty of fun. There were two lucky winners of the big £4 full house prize in bingo, while Chris & Elizabeth (Felix’s parents) romped home in the big quiz to claim the £5 star prize. Meanwhile Dave Williams managed a typically jammy win on the ‘football card’ game (thanks to Jon for arranging that) and had £10 for his sky rocket! At least he had to pick ‘Sunderland’ to win so there was some solace.
There were some notable awards handed out in the presentations. All the boys received a trophy for their season’s efforts but there were also special cut crystal trophies for boys nominated in specific categories. Jamie Clarke won 3rd place as ‘Player’s player of the year’, while 3rd place as ‘Parent’s player of the year’ was awarded jointly to Mark Barnett and club captain Joshua McHugh. Sam O’Neill was voted second in both categories, but the winner of both awards was Callum Barlow. All of these nominated players have had excellent seasons, and while it’s always tough that not every boy can get nominated, it’s also fair that those who have produced a consistently high standard are recognised. Warmest congratulations to everyone.
There was also a special award given to four boys - Jamie Clarke, Jake Emmerson, Daniel Larkin and goalkeeper Callum Williams – who were given commemorative salvers to mark three seasons of outstanding service to the team.
I was also extremely surprised but deeply grateful to receive an engraved silver tankard from all the parents and players which I will treasure forever. Thank you all so very much.
There is so much to be pleased about this season and tonight helped to underline that. However, for me, I think that, above all, seeing parents and children all working together over many long months to create special memories and family experiences is what gives me the greatest pleasure. This is what my teams are all about.
Every team likes to win but of course not every team can win, which is why Reddish North End is not and I hope never will be a ‘win-at-all-costs’ club. We are first and foremost about giving boys and young men the chance to play football, experience a team environment and a competitive league system with all the highs and lows which accompany it. Of course at every age group we aim to do our very best on the field but the results are not the be-all and end-all. More important is the chance for parents and children to share some life experience together in a friendly, positive atmosphere.
There may be sides that win more games but you will understand what I mean when I say that there is nowhere better to be playing junior football than Reddish North End.
Many thanks: James Emmerson
