Under 12's. Home v Denton Youth

Result - Reddish North End 2 Denton Youth 1

A fantastic start to the season for the team, a good performance (really good in parts) and lots to look forward to I hope. The morning turned out very warm which was most welcome, and the team did well to keep focussed as there was a 20 minute delay while the referee fought his way through traffic problems in Gorton.

However, once we kicked off it was for most of the half one way traffic. We had so many chances, with shots being blocked, a couple cleared off the line, and numerous others narrowly missing. It was tough on the boys to lose a goal to a breakaway by Denton but they only have themselves to blame, as too may of them forgot what they were supposed to be doing and we were punished. Thankfully and deservedly we were soon back on level terms, Jamie sweeping the ball in after good work from Michael. We could have gone behind again from another Denton breakaway but luckily for us the attacker fired over.

We talked about what needed to happen in the second half and within the first three minutes we had five attempts on goal, forcing two good stops from the goalie and generally causing chaos in their area, but no end product. As the half went on it, and more chances came and went, it seemed like we might never get there, but finally a free kick on the edge of the box saw Sam crack in a great effort for 2-1. We did have some defending to do as Denton pressed in patches, but good solid goalkeeping from Callum settled our nerves and we were still going strong when the final whistle blew.

So lots to be pleased about. The win, of course; some good individual performances especially from debutants Sam, Mark and Callum B; good energy levels despite the unexpected heat; some good passing and moving; and creating stacks of chances. However there is still a lot to work on, so we will be back to training on Monday trying to get better. But well done lads, a wonderful start.
