Under 12's. Away v Medlock Rangers

Result - Reddish North End 6 Medlock Rangers 1

Reddish brought the curtain down on a brilliant season with a fantastic second half performance in Droylesden today.
Six goals – and it could have been many more – gave the boys a thumping win to finish off 2008-09 in real style.

We did the hard work last week, securing second spot in the division with a hard-fought win not far away at Brendon Bees, so today was a chance to relax and enjoy the game with no pressure on the result. I told the boys before the game that it was up to them, if they wanted to win today they knew what they had to do. And sure enough the boys started off strongly, going close several times before Sam worked hard to set up Callum with a tap-in for 1-0. Other shots flashed just wide or just over but sadly we had a poor five minutes towards the end of the first half. Medlock got an equaliser from a corner and then rattled the bar from another attack as our midfield took an early half-time break.

So when the actual half time came it was most welcome! A chance to munch our Freddos and get a few things sorted out was what we needed, and with my instructions ringing in their ears the boys went back on and produced a superb performance. Our midfield kept its shape much better, the defence was really solid, and with Michael and Reece performing well out wide, and the forwards linking up well together, we were in business. We found the net five times, with Jamie, Sam and Callum all bagging a deserved brace apiece, and without the intervention of the Medlock goalie we would have been into double figures. He produced one great save from Sam’s free kick (which is on my Facebook page) and thwarted several other attempts with good stops or alert clearances. Mark unfortunately put a great chance over the bar at the death but by that stage it didn’t really matter, although had it gone in it would have been goal number 99 for the team this season!

So all in all a highly satisfactory morning. It was a deserved way to finish off an amazing season and I was so pleased that we played some great football at times today. Well done boys!! You have done everyone proud today and done yourselves justice.
