Result - Reddish North End 3 New Mills Juniors 0
Match Report: Andy Johnson
Today RNE had a tough game against New Mills Juniors A following the devastating loss to Rose Hill Rovers last week. This week though, they were back to full strength. Joe, Dillon H and Khaleal were all back and raring to go.
The game started well with some brilliant passing and build up play from Reddish, which was eventually intercepted by NM. The early pressure from Reddish provided James with an early chance, which was put wide. It wasn’t to be the same result next time as he turned the defence inside out and hit an unstoppable shot to the keepers left. 1-0.
Reddish looked like they had forgotten all about last weeks result as they started to get into their stride. Just as a warning, NM threatened to hit back with a few long-range shots, showing they had a number of players who could strike the ball well. Reddish rode the pressure and hit NM on the counter attack. Dillon H, Khaleal and Jacob passed well together and in the end set up Zac for a long-range effort of his own. Meanwhile, Emi sat back well using good skill and strength to keep Reddish ahead. One of his clearances ended up creating another chance. The ball floated over the NM defence, which put James through on goal. He was only intercepted as the NM got back well. Khaleal showed some great skill going past two players and winning a free kick. The free kick, which was taken by Khaleal, was curled round the wall and, after a fumble by the goalkeeper, ended up in the back of the net. 2-0.
As the half time whistle neared, NM broke through our defence and was one on one with Joe. But, as the striker pulled his leg back to shoot, Emi produced a world-class tackle and kept RNEs lead at 2-0. At the end of the half Reddish had all but forgotten about the defeat last week.
HALF TIME: 2-0.
The whistle blew for the second half to begin and more or less straight away Reddish put themselves in a match-winning position by scoring the third goal. James scored his second of the game by following up the rebound from Jacks shot and tucked the ball into the net. 3-0.
The next few minutes saw Reddish dominate. They passed the ball really well as they looked for the forth goal. There was also good concentration from the defence as NM looked to find a way back into the match. The game became a bit heated as Khaleal and Kane clashed with a couple of NM midfielders. Khaleal was eventually taken off to calm down and the referee had a few words in Kane’s ear as she tried to cool down the tempers. The last 10 minutes of the game saw NM pile the pressure on RNEs goal. Joe had to produce some saves late on that should both be candidates for ‘Saves of the Season’. Both shots looked like certain goals but Joe was determined to keep a clean sheet.
With the final whistle ringing in the player’s ears, Reddish were back to winning ways. They had banished last week’s defeat to the past and are now looking back up the table. There is now a two-week break in the league although there is no rest for the players just yet. They have a cup match next Saturday against Bramhall North 75 C. I’m sure we can play as well in the cup as we have done in the league. See you all there.
