Result - Reddish North End 7 Brendon Bees 1

Match Report: James Emmerson

With no league game for either club today, Reddish met Ashton-based Brendon Bees in a friendly at South Reddish Park. And what a fantastic morning! Reddish swept to victory with some wonderful football and on another day may have scored many more.

We had no Sam today, who took the opportunity to train with the Stockport Inter-League side, but with James making his debut Reddish didn’t miss their leading scorer at all. We got in behind the Bees numerous times in the first half, good simple passing and teamplay creating several great chances. Some were spurned, but thankfully a couple were taken as Josh rifled in a penalty after a clear foul on Callum B, who later fired home from inside the box after the Bees gave him too much space and time.

It was an impressive half as all parts of the team worked well and prevented Bees from having any clear opportunities, and we talked at the break about pressing home the advantage. After inspired words from yours truly, praising the defence for their solid and effective performance, no prizes for guessing what happens straight after the restart! An absolute comedy classic gifted Bees their goal, as somehow Jake and Callum left the ball for each other and the Bees striker had a goal-line tap-in for 2-1. Doh!

However, it barely threw Reddish off their stride as they quickly extended their advantage with two smart goals from Callum, giving him a richly deserved hat-trick. Apparently his school team play him at left back, would you believe, and it’s little wonder they get trounced regularly wasting a player of his ability there. He was superb today, tireless running and great inter-play with James and Jamie, and when he smacked home his fourth and Reddish’s fifth, he came off for a few minutes to many congratulations. When he went back on, Callum set up Jamie for a sixth before James capped a marvellous individual show with number seven. Daniel B then went very close with two headers from successive corners, and the Bees had their overworked goalie to thank for keeping the score down.

I haven’t felt so relaxed at a game in such a long time! Certainly it was an amazing contrast from last week - there wasn’t a cross word between the boys, they clearly enjoyed themselves, and everyone enjoyed a lovely relaxed and ‘chilled’ environment – literally and metaphorically, as it was a bit parky when the wind blew – just a great experience!
