Away v Medlock Blacks
Result - Reddish North End 3 Medlock Blacks 0

Match Report: James Emmerson
Ourselves and ‘B’ division side Medlock Blacks were both without a fixture today, and this was our first ever meeting. And I can reflect on a very impressive result, and one which the boys all worked really hard for on a very difficult day for football. The weather man was right for once, and the promised strong winds descended on us with avengance. With some spiteful drizzle also making sporadic appearances, it was by far the most unpleasant weather we’ve played in since back in March.
So to come away with a win and a shutout is very pleasing indeed. The boys deserve every credit for a hard-working performance, when they virtually assured themselves of a win after getting to half time 1-0 up. They gave Medlock plenty to think about despite kicking into the teeth of the howling wind and created a few good chances which sadly just lacked the finishing touch. Sam came very close early on, the keeper dropping his fizzing low shot – I thought it had gone in but another last ditch dive by the goalie kept it out.
Persistence from Louis and Callum on the left eventually saw the ball break loose for Daniel B to score, almost a carbon copy of his goal last week. There were other half-chances which didn’t get finished off, while in defence I was generally pleased with how the team coped with the wind in their faces. Callum W in goals and Jake on the left were very solid, and apart from one brief alarm when a wind-assisted Medlock shot clipped the bar, the team defended sensibly and with determination.

With the wind now behind us I knew we were capable of scoring from anywhere, and the Medlock defence understandably struggled with the high bounce and fast-moving ball. We had three chances in the first three minutes, hit the bar, and generally made the conditions work for us. We almost got caught out as Medlock battled away, our only defensive slip of the match almost costing us although Medlock shot wide from a good position. By this time, though, most of the match was done and we were already 2-0 up, an alert Jamie tapping home a loose ball. More near misses followed before Callum Barlow capped a fine performance with a stylish finish from the edge of the box.
We were all glad to get off home and in the warm, but not before congratulating the boys on an excellent performance and result. Very well done boys – now, can we carry on from here as we return to league action next week when Clayton Villa come to South Reddish Park?
