Result - Reddish North End 8 Medlock Rangers 1

Match Report: James Emmerson

With no league game for us today, we played against the ‘B’ division side also without a fixture, Medlock Rangers Whites. Both sides took the opportunity to experiment and there were plenty of substitutions during a good natured and pleasantly relaxed game.

Reddish ran out comfortably ahead in the end, although it could – Medlock will say ‘should’ – have been very different. Reddish started very slowly and were asleep as Medlock made three very good chances which we were fortunate they did not finish off. With all due respect, that’s the difference in the standard of the two divisions, because it’s hard to see that our usual ‘A’ Division opponents would have let those opportunities go begging.

However, Reddish made the most of their good fortune, and the team soon applied the pressure at the right end of the pitch. Sam fired home for 1-0 and several good chances were missed, until a good cross off Callum was deflected by a Medlock defender for 2-0 at half time.

Medlock got right back into the game just after the restart, a free kick being whacked home really well, but this galvanised the boys and they were soon creating lots of chances in a relentless spell of pressure. Sam chipped home very coolly for 3-1, but I can’t remember the order in which the other goals went in. Callum got a hat-trick as well as missing two other great chances, Jamie scored very smartly, and Daniel Boocock got his first for the club after good work by Sam and Michael. It could have been many more and Michael, Louis and Daniel Larkin all came within inches of scoring. Callum W did what little he had to do efficiently after a busy first few minutes, and the defence remained solid when Medlock got forward.

It was a very useful run out for the team and although Medlock didn’t have their strongest side out (they have a cup match tomorrow) the boys still had to work hard. It was good to enjoy a relaxed game and there were plenty of smiles afterwards, which is always good to see, as several players reflected on a great morning’s work.

Thanks to Ian for reffing and providing some slapstick mirth when he almost went base over apex at a restart!

Next week we have another friendly against Medlock Rangers Blacks team, who we’ve never played before.
